The City of Harrison has a great trail around Lake Harrison which many residents enjoy. One drawback is the seasonal geese population.
According to Google, “One goose can consume up to four pounds of grass daily, creating about three pounds of fecal matter daily.”
Grounds Crew Director Jerry Farmer and his team erected a string fence last year that discouraged the geese from the sidewalks. Then, the geese learned they could jump the string fence. This year the staff erected a larger wire fence around the playground which has discouraged them from investigating that area of the park.
Mayor Jerry Jackson said, “Even though that fence is hindering the geese from the splash pad and playground, we still have crews out there every morning cleaning the sidewalks. Keeping the geese off the sidewalks has been challenging for our community.”
