Meet Your City Council

Meet Liz Darden

Liz Darden became the newest council member when she was elected to fill the remaining term of a retiring council member. She feels like she serves the whole community in her position and is currently the Parks and Rec Committee chairman.

She believes being born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, and her parents' teaching has shaped her feelings. She loved the different kinds of food, music, and dance her classmates brought to the school atmosphere. She also loved the hiking, fishing, and beauty of the area.

While living in Alaska, did you ever hug a moose?

“I’ve never hugged a moose, but I was chased by one. Some friends threw snowballs at a moose, and he chased us. Did you know a moose can’t take corners very fast?”

She has family roots in Ponca, and her great-great-grandfather instilled the belief that all deserve the opportunity to become someone – no matter where they came from. “My mom was a school nurse who displayed unwavering acceptance towards children's extraordinary abilities – treating each one as an equal.”

“Furthermore, my upbringing exposed me to the realities of addiction and its far-reaching effects from an early age. Attending 12-step program meetings to support a family member's recovery, I gained insight into the addiction epidemic that affects individuals from all walks of life,” she said.

She has her education degree and loved teaching for the Harrison School District.

She is always looking for projects and ways to help others and offer them a hand up. “Some people just need someone to help them transition back into society,” she said.

Liz has three children from the ages of six to 11. “I’m so proud of our community! Countless individuals have dedicated relentless efforts to uplift the economy, improve quality of life, and warmly welcome visitors. Go, Gobs!”
