The Harrison Rapids Swim Team hosted an area swim meet on Saturday, June 15, at the Burlsworth Youth Center outdoor pool from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Five teams brought approximately 120 swimmers with many extended families to cheer them on.
Coach Jennifer Feighert said competing teams came from Paragould, Pocahontas, Jonesboro, Mountain Home, and Harrison. Some swimmers and their families spent Friday night in town.
Hosting a swim meet requires extensive preparation, and Jennifer said the parents do a lot to get everything ready for the special day.
Each swimmer can participate in three events and two relays. There are four main swimming strokes and one race that mixes all strokes. Swimmers can compete at various distances from 25, 50, 100, and 200 meters.
The Harrison Rapids team consists of 48 swimmers from Harrison, Berryville, Branson, Everton, Holiday Island, Jasper, and Yellville.
One 17-year-old swimmer joined the team for the first time this year to stay in shape and be ready to run Cross Country for her college this fall.
Jennifer said nine swimmers have already qualified for the Junior Olympics, and two more will travel to Texarkana this weekend to qualify, hopefully.
