What will it cost me to use the Creekside Community Center and/or the Aquatic Center? That’s the second most asked question city officials hear almost daily. Of course, the first question is, “When will it open?”
The people in hard hats think the doors will open this fall. Now, according to an announcement Mayor Jackson made at the City Council meeting, it will open on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Now, regarding the monthly expense of being a member, the center is for all ages and affordable for every budget. Families who qualify for the free lunch program will receive special pricing consideration.
The staff researched other facilities similar to Harrison’s and are striving to make the monthly membership affordable. They will also offer daily rates for out-of-town teams and visitors to the Community Center.
Mayor Jerry Jackson said, “We are doing everything we can to help lower-income families have a great place to spend their free time.”
Creekside Community Center Amenities
When people walk into the Creekside Community Center, they can choose a green or blue hallway. The green hallway has the large Arvest Bank Party Room for the swimming pool, doubling as a small or large meeting room. Across the hallway is the DSI Game Room with corn hole, foosball, a pool table, ping pong, air hockey, and shuffleboard. Tables will be available for board games, cards, homework stations, and an area to watch movies. The equipment needed to play these games will be available to be checked out by a staff member assigned to that room.
Down the blue hallway will be the Harrison Battery & Tire Golf Simulator. One area will have a place to practice golf swings, and the other side of the room will have a golf simulator with several golf courses to “experience.”
Also, in the blue hallway are two rooms dedicated to electronics. Wood Motor Company sponsors an e-sports lab and console gaming computers, including eight Xbox and eight Sony PlayStations.
Three air-conditioned multipurpose courts are available. One court will be dedicated to local activities. An indoor play area for small children is nearby and sponsored by Tempo Sound. An indoor walking track is on the second level, overlooking the newest gymnasium, which is still under construction. The gym sponsors are First Community Bank, Signature Bank, and Farm Bureau Insurance.
Creekside Community Center Pricing
Pricing for Creekside Community Center is broken down by seniors (65+), singles, couples, families (children ages 5-22), and day passes. Military ID holders get an additional 20% discount, and disabled veterans get a 50% discount.
Members have options for annual, three-month, or per-month pricing.
A family of four can purchase a Creekside Community Center membership for as low as $25 a month, depending upon the payment plan chosen.
Senior Citizen pricing for the community center begins as low as $8 a month, depending on the pricing option chosen. Programs for seniors like Silver Sneakers plan to participate and offer additional discounts.
Creekside Aquatic Center Amenities
The Aquatics Center's star is the competition-size, indoor heated swimming pool and diving board. There is also a kiddie pool and a therapy pool. Showers and changing areas are close by. Davis Buick GMC sponsors this facility.
Creekside Aquatic Center Pricing
Access to the Aquatic Center is available for a small additional fee with a Creekside Community membership. The Aquatic Center also offers a punch card for 10 visits for $45 a year. Day passes are not available.
For example, prices for the Creekside Community Center start at $25 monthly for a family of four. An additional $15 a month provides access to the Aquatic Center.
Tours and a membership drive will begin three weeks before the facility opens so everyone can see all the available amenities and activities. A chart of pricing details, which will include renting areas for parties or meetings, will be available soon on the Parks and Recreation website.
When does it open?
Some city staff members have been planning this process for more than six years. They are just as anxious as the community to open it. Before the opening date, a two-week membership drive with tours will be available. The Mayor announced at the last City Council meeting that Creekside will open on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The fire suppression system for the whole complex will be housed in the newest part of the project—the new gym, which is currently under construction. State fire codes require the Aquatic Center to be equipped with sprinklers, even though the swimming pool area is made of glass, concrete, and metal. So, people can not use the Aquatics Center until the fire suppression system is ready for the whole structure.
