The race for City Council Ward 3 Position 1 race was a three-way contest between Charlie Pierce, Austin Wilson and Mellie Williams, but no candidate garnered enough votes to take the win and only one vote as of Wednesday morning separated the second candidates.
Pierce – 1,659
Wilson – 1,293
Williams – 1,292
Boone County election officials said that as of Wednesday morning a runoff election is set for Tuesday, Dec. 3, between Pierce and Wilson.
However, the Boone County Election Commission is set to meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, to certify results of the election. Officials said there were 57 provisional ballots cast – often a result of a voter not being registered, but voting anyway – and there were still eight ballots from overseas voters that hadn’t been returned to the clerk’s office to be counted.
The election commission will go over those provisional ballots at the certification meeting and it wasn’t clear if any of those ballots were from Harrison voters. And ballots from overseas are not due to be returned until Friday, Nov. 15.
If any of those votes are cast in the Harrison election and approved by the commission, it could sway results leading up to the runoff.
All election results are unofficial until the election commission certifies results later this month.
