The Parks Committee met on Tuesday, Jan. 7, for their monthly meeting.

Parks Director Chuck Eddington told the committee he was very pleased with the membership totals. “As of this morning, we have 2,608 members, and it’s growing more every day.”

The parks team is gearing up for the basketball tournament to be held on Saturday, Jan. 11 at Creekside.

The Brandon Burlsworth Youth Center will close for the week of Jan. 13, to paint and clean the floors. “We do this every year.” Eddington said he was sorry for the inconvenience, but pickleball and the after-school program will be moved to Creekside for that week.

The committee approved opening up Fridays in February to “Bring a Friend” month. Creekside members can bring a friend on Fridays to try out the facility.

The group reviewed the comments in the suggestion box, and many comments have already been taken care of. Additional furniture has been added to the walking track area for seating as needed. Coat racks are also being added.

Avery Weaver was introduced to the committee. He was hired to assist Austin Smith as sports coordinator and concession stands.

Eddington shared his 2025 goals with his staff during their meeting on Monday morning. “2024 was a great year for Parks and we look forward to what 2025 holds for us. We have a long list of tournaments and events already booked, but that list is constantly changing. I’m talking to a guy today about hosting an E-Sports tournament.”

Staff member Kim Fulton told the group that the swim birthday parties have been a big hit. Eddington also told the group that the $8 day pass has been very popular.

CFO Luke Feighert said the Aquatic Center is getting more upgrades. “Steps have been ordered, as well as a Video Board.” He hopes both will arrive in less than two months.
