Yard Waste Composting
The City of Harrison owns and operates a yard waste composting facility. Yard waste received by the City is composted using a controlled aerobic decomposition to transform organic material into a biologically stable product that can be used as a soil amendment. In addition to producing compost, the facility also produces wood chip mulch.
The facility is not open to the public; however, City of Harrison and Boone County residents may take yard waste, limbs, and brush to the LRS at 1313 Old Bellefonte Road. The Drop Off Center is closed on Mondays & Tuesdays. Hours are W-F: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) Compost and mulch are also seasonally available for pick up by Harrison and Boone County residents at the Recycling Center.
The annual City-Wide Leaf Pickup will begin Monday after Thanksgiving and will be scheduled by City Ward. Based on the ward you live in, you’ll need to have your leaves at the curb before the posted date to ensure that they will be collected at the correct time. The schedule will be posted on social media and the website during October. The order of pick up is Wards 2, 3, 1, and 4.
