Street Department Winter Weather & Public Safety Reminders:
Public Works has four dump trucks with salt spreaders and plows, five pickup trucks with salt spreaders and/or plows, in addition to backhoes, loaders and a motor grader. Equipment will be designated for higher volume streets before clearing lower volume and neighborhood streets.
Crews will be working on 12-hour rotating shifts, day and night, as necessary.
Avoid Parking on the Street. We recommend no parking on the roadway during snow & ice events. Vehicles parked on the street may prevent access for roadway treatment and snow removal.
Don’t crowd the Plow. Please stay at least six car lengths back and away from any snow plows.
Snow plows will push snow to the right side of the truck. This will cause snow rows at driveways on both sides of the street. While we realize that can be frustrating to some people, it is an unfortunate side-effect to plowing snow off streets. We do not have the equipment or personnel to clear private driveways or plow rows next to driveways.
Temperatures following the upcoming snow event are expected to stay below 20-degrees until at least Friday and aren’t projected to be above freezing until Saturday. These very low temperatures will reduce the effectiveness of road salt. Please be patient with the crews.
When roads are snow/ice-covered, please stay home unless driving is absolutely necessary.
